School and Karate

Unlike most sports, the martial arts has a direct correlation to school work.  How you dribble a ball in basketball, or how hard you can hit a ball in baseball, isn't going to help you with your schoolwork.  The self discipline, patience, self control, and confidence developed in karate carry through to school.  When training for a new rank, students in karate practice over and over in order to pass their test.  Likewise a student should review their schoolwork in the same manner.  Homework, is like practicing.  It reinforces what you learn during class.  When we have discipline and control, like that we exhibit by avoiding a fight or sparring with a fellow student, it's like when we are trying to concentrate in school.  The idea is to try and use the things we learn in karate in school.  And vica-versa.  In school we learn to be attentive and listen to the teacher.  A reminder that although karate is fun, we must always pay attention and listen to your teacher.  Oh and ONE MORE THING.  SCHOOL COMES FIRST.  Get your homework done.  Get good grades.  And make sure your homework is finished BEFORE you come in for karate at night.  Practice, Pay attention, and Have fun.  Good luck in school, remember we want to see your report cards.
